Rendering of jaw with dental bridge at Revive Dental and Implant Center in Charleston, West VirginiaHaving multiple missing teeth can significantly impact your life. Regardless of whether the teeth fall out on their own or they need to be extracted, it is essential that you have those missing teeth replaced as soon as possible since missing teeth can affect your jaw. At Revive Dental and Implant Center, we can replace several missing teeth with a partial fixed bridge.

Why Do Teeth Need Replacement?

Your teeth do a lot for you. They enable you to eat all of your favorite foods. They facilitate proper speech. They play a rather integral aesthetic role. In addition to being the main component of your smile, they are also important for facial aesthetics. They are even important for the integrity of your jawbone. If you lose teeth, even if it is only a few, all of these things are impacted. In addition to making it more difficult to eat and talk, your smile suffers, and your jawbone becomes weak. You are also at an increased risk for several oral health problems.

Treatment for Several Missing Teeth

A partial fixed bridge is a type of dental implant, using posts made from titanium to secure false teeth into place. You may be a candidate if you are missing several teeth in a section of your mouth. The posts, which require surgery for placement, act as artificial roots, supporting your new teeth, and stimulating the bone.

Replacing Your Teeth with a Partial Fixed Bridge

If you want a partial fixed bridge to replace your teeth, you will need surgery. The surgery starts with incisions in your gum tissue. These incisions allow us to reach the bone underneath easily. Next, a dental drill is used to make holes directly in the bone. We then put the posts into your jaw and close the incisions with stitches. Finally, we put temporary teeth onto the posts, which you can then use until we are ready to make your permanent replacement teeth.

Depending upon how many posts you receive, and other factors, your recovery period can last anywhere from just a few weeks up to several months. It is during this time that your bone attaches, or fuses, to your implants. This is called osseointegration. The posts become a fixed part of your jaw. Once healed, we take impressions, your permanent restorations are made, and then they are affixed to the implant posts.

Why Get a Partial Fixed Bridge?

A partial fixed bridge provides a completely natural restoration to your smile. With the teeth supported by the implants, the restoration is much more comfortable. You can brush and floss your implants like your real teeth. Finally, the posts put a stop to bone loss, keeping your jaw strong.

Alternatives to a Partial Fixed Bridge

While a partial fixed bridge can provide an excellent solution for many patients, it is not the right solution for everyone. This does not mean you are out of luck. There are still options available to you. One of these options is a traditional bridge. This treatment can replace up to three consecutive missing teeth. If you are missing a larger section of teeth, another option is a removable partial denture.

A partial fixed bridge helps to restore the functions of a section of missing teeth and improve your oral health. Depending upon its location, it can even help to improve the quality of your smile.
