Traditional Dentures vs. Implant-Supported Dentures
| Feature | Traditional Dentures | Implant-Supported Dentures |
|---|---|---|
| Stability | May slip or click | Snaps securely into place |
| Bone preservation | No stimulation | Preserves jawbone |
| Chewing power | Limited | Near-natural (3x traditional) |
| Longevity | 5-10 years | 10-20+ years |
| Upfront cost | Lower | Higher |
| Adhesives needed | Yes | No |
Implant-Supported Dentures: A More Secure Solution
Traditional dentures rest on the gums and can slip or cause sore spots. Implant-supported dentures snap onto titanium posts placed in your jawbone, providing:
- Stability that traditional dentures can’t match: No slipping, clicking, or adhesives needed
- Preserved jawbone health: Implants stimulate bone growth, preventing the “sunken face” appearance
- Restored chewing power: Up to 3x the bite force of traditional dentures
Ask Dr. Boustany during your consultation whether implant-supported dentures are right for you.
Full Dentures
A full denture replaces all the teeth in the upper or lower arch. Our full dentures help you smile with confidence by replicating the natural look and function of your teeth. There are two types of full dentures: conventional and immediate.
A conventional denture is a full-arch prosthetic set of teeth mounted on an acrylic base. It is made after the healing process is complete and any remaining teeth have been extracted.
An immediate denture is made in advance and placed the same day as your extractions. When choosing an immediate denture, you don’t have to go without teeth during the healing process.
Please note that an immediate denture is considered a temporary solution. For a better long-term result, we recommend a conventional denture once the gum tissues have fully healed.

Partial Dentures
We often recommend a partial denture as the least invasive and most cost-effective solution for several consecutive missing teeth. A partial denture consists of prosthetic teeth attached to a pink or flesh-colored plastic base. The base, especially for the upper arch, looks like a conventional retainer.
Most partials have metal clasps that hold the restoration to the surrounding teeth. Our partials are designed to look like your natural teeth for both function and aesthetics. If you are concerned with appearance, we may recommend precision attachments that eliminate the metal clasps.

The Denture Process: What to Expect
As with any restoration, the denture process starts with a consultation. Once you and Dr. Boustany agree that a removable denture is right for you, we begin treatment planning. Denture treatment typically takes a few weeks and several appointments.
We start with a series of impressions. These impressions are used to make a model of your mouth so we can determine the exact shape and position of your denture. We may go through several models before we are satisfied with the look, shape, color, and fit of your new denture.
Once we have designed the ideal denture, we begin fabrication and cast the final product. At the next appointment, we will place your new denture. In some cases, we may need to make last-minute adjustments to get a perfect fit.
With our in-house same-day denture option, we compress this entire timeline into a single appointment. Ask us if you’re a candidate for same-day dentures. To learn more, visit: Same-day Dentures.

Caring for Your Removable Denture
Caring for a removable denture is different from caring for a fixed appliance. There is usually an adjustment period as you get used to eating, speaking, and smiling with your new teeth. It’s common to have minor irritation or soreness for the first few weeks, which should subside over time.
Denture care tips:
- Remove and rinse your denture after meals
- Keep your denture moist at all times (if it dries out, it may warp or become brittle)
- Store your denture in water or a mild soaking solution overnight
- Brush your denture daily with a soft-bristle brush (avoid toothpaste, which can be abrasive)
After placing your new denture or partial, Dr. Boustany will give you detailed care instructions before you leave our office. Our dental care team offers personalized care and is available to answer questions or address concerns after your treatment.
We Make Dentures Affordable
We accept most PPO dental insurance plans and will file claims on your behalf. For patients without insurance, ask about:
- In-house payment plans: Spread your treatment cost over time
- CareCredit financing: Interest-free options for qualified patients
